2-11-3, Meguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo
For this first ApéroTalk of the new season, we're extremely happy to welcome Matthew Romaine, Gengo's CEO, at Impact HUB Tokyo. Matthew was raised in Japan attending an international school before moving to the U.S. for boarding school. As an undergraduate he attended Brown University, then received a Masters in Music from Stanford University before returning to Tokyo to join Sony Corporation.
Most notably, Matthew co-founded Gengo in 2009, a crowdsourced human translation platform now with over 20,000 translators supporting 35+ languages. Gengo is democratizing access to opportunity for language enthusiasts around the world, and is becoming the bridge for massive global communication. Gengo has raised $25 million from international VCs including Atomico, Intel, and Recruit.
Matthew will share his journey moving from a working prototype to getting your first funding. He'll add in some of his experiences of being a founder in Japan, and will give insights on what to expect from the market.
ApéroTalk is our events series based on a very simple (and very French) concept: Apéro and Talk.
Agenda
• 7:00 pm - Door opens
• 7:30 pm - Talk and Q&A by Matthew
• 8:30 pm - Networking session
