The digital products that we design, build and ship to the world can have a tremendous impact that reaches beyond the people using them on a variety of stakeholders, and even on society at large. Digital design methodologies are often narrowing down on current user needs and short-term business goals, missing out on this broader impact. For product teams, this can result in missed opportunities to provide value, and potentially on an array of unintended consequences.
How do we make sure that the digital products we work hard to bring to the world have a true positive impact on users, stakeholders, and society at large?
This is where the concept of designing for social impact comes in. Using methodologies borrowed from system thinking and future thinking, product teams can bring a social impact dimension to the creation of digital products.
For this workshop, we are excited to welcome Raphael Hodé, Lead Designer at Designit Tokyo, and founder of the social venture kammeko. He will introduce the concept of design for social impact, share a methodology to incorporate this thinking in the creation of digital products, and take us through an exercise to put it in practice.
