Description

Do you want to learn how to transform your data into captivating, impactful visual experiences? πŸ“Š

For this workshop, we are happy to welcome Dea Bankova, who is currently a Data Analysis & Visualisation assistant at the University of Tokyo. She will show you how to get started with creating exciting, custom and interactive data visualisations interfaces using the JavaScript library D3.js. The field of story-telling through data visualisation has been rapidly growing, with publications such as the Pudding (https://pudding.cool/) creating whole new ways we interact with information in the digital age.

What’s covered πŸ‘‰

  • Quick overview of the Data Visualisation landscape in JavaScript.
  • Intro to D3.js, the industry standard for highly customisable and interactive visualisations, with examples and resources.
  • Hands-on demo on how to build a simple but completely custom visualisation. Spoiler alert: the topic will be related to anime.
  • Time permitting, a quick overview of scrollytelling, or how to combine D3.js with other libraries to create a whole story around your data and make it more engaging.

⚠️ Not covered: building standard dashboards for business metrics.

Prerequisite πŸ‘‰

  • Basic knowledge of JavaScript, CSS and the HTML DOM
  • Some previous data viz knowledge in any language could be helpful
